Solving a maze drawn on paper where you see the whole maze from above is loads of fun, but there’s nothing like actually walking inside a real life-sized maze.
Now you can do just that with the brand new RealMaze AR iPhone and iPad AR game!

Immerse yourself in realistic 3D AR mazes. The work of indie developer Rafi Saar from Syncopa Software, RealMaze AR promises to provide hours of fun to players of all ages, kids and adults alike!

Your objective is to complete each maze as fast as you can.  Choose to play any of the 50 challenging levels which vary in maze size, wall width and height and maze difficulty (how long the solution path is relative to the maze size).  In some levels you get a 5 seconds penalty for touching the walls and some levels have special and cool lighting effects, making it more fun and engaging, but slightly more difficult to complete.

Or you can choose to build your own maze by manually setting any of its parameters.

RealMaze AR gives you 4 power-ups which can help you complete the maze faster:

  • Top View (unlocks with level 3): lets you view the maze from the top for just a few seconds (longer for larger mazes, shorter for smaller mazes).  A red X in a circle will show you where in the maze you’re currently positioned.  Quickly try to solve the maze like those mazes on paper then try to repeat the same while back inside the real maze.  If you had the Bread Crumbs power-up turned on (see below), you’ll also see the path already taken while viewing the maze from the top.

  • Break Wall (unlocks with level 6): once this power-up has been armed, you can hit any internal wall to break it and then just walk through where that wall once stood.  If you change your mind, you can unarm this power-up and its usage counter won’t decrease.

  • Bread Crumbs Path (unlocks with level 10): once this power-up has been turned on, you will leave bread crumbs or pebbles everywhere you walk in the maze.  This is especially useful for large mazes where it becomes difficult to remember which paths have already been taken and prevent you from walking twice in the same place.  This power-up will remain on until you complete the level.

  • Vanishing Walls (unlocks with level 14): as long as you’re not too close to the maze exit, this power-up will remove all the internal walls for just a few seconds and allow you to quickly run anywhere else in the maze.  Just make sure you run somewhere that actually gets you closer to the exit and you don’t end up in some cul-de-sac.

Your scores will be better if you improve on the following skills:

  • Speed: obviously you should run as fast as you can

  • Memory: the larger the maze, the more paths it will have and the better you remember which paths you’ve already tried, the faster you’ll be able to complete the maze (the Bread Crumbs Path power-up can obviously help you out if you want)

  • Reflexes: train your fingers to quickly freeze and unfreeze the maze when reaching a real-life obstacle or to activate a power-up when needed

  • Strategy: quickly plan how to map out the maze and decide when’s the right time to use any power-ups or maybe even combine some of them together

As with anything in life, the more you’ll play, the more you’ll improve on those skills and the better you will become at it.

A few things make this game stand out:

  • The walls materials look very realistic and give you a feeling of actually walking inside a maze.

  • Each maze is built on the spot before you start each level.  This means that you can play the same level over and over again.  The level characteristics will be the same, but the maze path itself will be different each time.  In a future update, you’ll be able to save a maze that you like to re-play the same exact maze or send it to your friends to challenge them to solve it faster than you did.

  • It’s impossible to walk through a maze wall.  If you hit a wall and continue to walk, the whole maze will move with you so that essentially you’ll remain in the same spot inside the maze.

  • An awesome feature that every player should quickly master is the ability to freeze the maze and move it elsewhere.  This is necessary for cases where you hit an obstacle in the real world, but you have to walk through that exact spot in order to solve the maze.  By freezing the maze you can reposition yourself to someplace with more room to walk around, unfreeze and continue from the exact same spot in the maze.
This feature allows you to play anywhere you want and there’s no need to look for a large open space.  Thanks to this freeze option, you can play inside your house, even with lots of walls and furniture scattered all around.  Just quickly freeze, turn around, unfreeze, and continue to solve the maze the fastest you can.

RealMaze AR is a free to play game with ads showing between levels every now and then.

There are different in-app purchases to remove the ads and to buy coins and/or power-ups, but solving each level gets you coins as well so it’s not necessary to purchase anything if you don’t want to.  You can also choose to watch ads to double the coins you received after each level.

RealMaze AR supports Game Center leaderboards so you can easily compare your maze solving times for each level with your friends or globally.

There are also many Game Center achievements you can try to get which make this game even more engaging.

To get the most out of RealMazeAR, make sure you’re playing in a well lit environment.  This is because AR apps need to track the real world to understand your movements and map the AR world created by the app to the real world.
Also, AR games have a high energy usage so it's best to start playing with a high battery charge.

RealMaze AR is available for free on the App Store.  Download now, enjoy playing while moving around, then challenge your friends to beat your scores!
